It’s 2015, and the demand for developers who specialize in Ruby On Rails has never been greater. Especially in California. As of today, according to Indeed, there are 1,375 Ruby On Rails Jobs In California. My plan is to build a good enough skill set to come back to Indeed, enter the keywords “Ruby On Rails”, and “CA”, click on the “Find Jobs” button, and eventually score my next job opportunity!
I’ve always wanted to learn how these online web applications were built and in the little time I’ve been experimenting with Ruby On Rails, I’m actually starting to really enjoy it. I’m amazed when I see the kind of work you can produce in such a short amount of time. I’ve built a good enough skill set to do that already with WordPress but for some reason it’s not the same.
Also, in the one month that I’ve experimented with Ruby On Rails, I could not believe how much pain and grief it caused me to install the damn thing! DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL RUBY ON RAILS ON WINDOWS. Save yourself, life is too short! I should have listened to the good folks who wrote all of the beginner tutorials. I come from a Desktop Support background and I thought I was just going to troubleshoot my way through, boy was I wrong. I eventually installed Ruby On Rails using Nitrous.io. Using Nitrous.io has not been easy either, there are a few bugs that I encounter sometimes that are a bit of a pain. More on that later. I’m not sure if its a bug or if its my lack of knowledge.
I will document my journey as much as I can. Now it’s time to code!
